The Kewaskum High School tennis team completed the 2024 fall season last week.

The WIAA subsectionals were held at the Sports Core in Kohler on Monday, October 7.

“We won four matches,” stated Head Coach Preder.

Liz Erdmann won her number one singles match against her opponent from Mayville and Macy Milella defeated her opponent from Springs at number two singles.

Emma Klahn and Olivia Beck added a win to their season by beating Mayville at number two doubles. Macy Sabish and Ella Drewitz also defeated Mayville in a number three doubles match.

“At flight number one, Liz Erdmann’s win qualified her for sectionals. The other players who won their first matches would have needed to win again on Monday to reach sectionals. They were all defeated in their next matches, leaving Liz as our only sectional qualifier,” explained Preder. The sectionals meet was also held at Kohler, on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Liz Erdmann was the Indians’ only qualifying player and was defeated by her opponent from Lourdes.

“This ended Liz’s high school career, which was an outstanding one. She was our number one singles player each of the last two seasons and has been a great leader,” said the coach.

Preder stated that Liz finished the season 14-8 overall.

“Her four-year varsity record was an outstanding 41-24,” he added. Macy Milella, a sophomore, finished the season with a 14-7 record.

“Macy also had a great year. She was on varsity as a freshman and has an excellent future ahead of her,” remarked Preder.

As a team, the girls finished the season 7-10. “The future of KHS girls tennis is bright. We had 30 players on the team, which is a great number. With only two seniors graduating, we could have an even higher number of players next year,” said the coach.

Preder mentioned that he feels that the team enjoyed the season. He explained that he saw a lot of growth from the girls, and the players learned a lot throughout the fall.

“We showed excellent sportsmanship, which is a high priority for us, and is crucial in a sport where the players have to make their own calls, rather than relying on officials or referees,” added Preder.

The head coach also stated that Kewaskum’s assistant coaches, Roger Lindgren, Carol Erdmann and Steve Milella were great individuals to work with.

“They are incredibly dedicated and made this a great season for our girls,” concluded Preder.
