Lady Cougars Finish Seventh at State

Posted

The Lady Cougars traveled to Revs in Oshkosh this past weekend for their fourth straight appearance at the State Tournament. The three seniors left from the 2023 State Championship Team were looking for a repeat of their 2023 performance.
Capri Constantineau, Taylor Muraski, and Olivia Boegel were all big players in the championship. In their first five-game block, the Cougars were looking good. In their fist five games, they had only ten opens and pushed out games of 191, 206 and 210.
“It was an awesome team effort in the first five games,” said Coach Serwe.
In the next four games, the Cougars struggled with spare shooting and their scores reflected it. The Cougars could only muster a high game of 169 in the middle four games.Game 10 saw the Cougars bounce back with a 189 game, but the next three saw the Cougars fall back into spare pandemonium.
The Cougars never gave up and with two games to go, the Cougars bounced back with a 189 game in which Taylor Muraski threw four strikes after throwing four strikes in her previous game, which put her string at eight consecutive strikes. Lillee Kiehnau and Kendall Boegel both had two strikes each to make it a team total of eight strikes for the game. Now, it is Game 15 and the Cougars needed a good game to make the stepladder bracket. Unfortunately, the Cougars missed two spares too many and they ended up missing the stepladder cut by only 25 pins, which put the Cougars in seventh place, a little behind last year’s third-place finish.

Taylor Muraski had a tremendous day filling 83% of her frames and tossing 18 strikes. Olivia Boegel filled 68% of her frames, and Lillee Kiehnau filled 66% of her frames for their team effort.
“We had a really good year winning our fourth conference title in a row and sending two individuals to the state tournament,” said Coach Serwe.
Team stats were as follows (strikes-spares-total frames): Taylor Muraski 14-11-30; Abby Jarmuz 5-7-24; Capri Constantineau 13-3-28; Lillee Thorn 8-12-30; Olivia Boegel 7-8-22; Gena Grahl 0-3-6; Kendall Boegel 3-1-10.

Muraski and Boegel Do Well at State Tournament

It was Olivia Boegel’s second time making the State singles finals and Taylor Muraski’s first.
Both girls bowled very well, but they both missed the second round by a few pins. Olivia Boegel shot 201-199-203 for a 603 series. Taylor Muraski shot a 162-236-200 for a 598 score. The cut was 621 to make the second round. Great bowling, Taylor and Olivia, the team will miss you ladies!
