The Kewaskum High School volleyball team played in two important matchups last week.

“The girls started their playo_ season this past week,” stated Head Coach Burg.

After receiving the title of Conference Champions, Kewaskum was awarded a first-round bye on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and a home game for the first round of playo_s.

The Indians hosted Ripon on Thursday, Oct. 24. The girls handled the matchup with ease as they won all three games on the night.

“A much improved Ripon team showed a lot of scrappy play all night but Kewaskum controlled all facets of the game from start to finish,” added the coach.

The three games were similar in score because the girls never lost their momentum. The Indians won by at least six points in each match as the scores were 25-13, 25-14 and 25-19.

“Kewaskum lost to Ripon last season in the same round last year so the team was excited to have the opportunity to avenge last year’s loss,” stated Burg.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, Kewaskum hosted another game, this time for the regional finals against Sheboygan Falls. This team proved to give the girls more of a challenge than Tuesday’s game.

“Earlier in the season, the two teams faced each other in a non-conference match. Kewaskum won the first matchup 3-2 and knew this match wasn’t going to be any di_erent,” said coach Burg.

Kewaskum pulled o_ a close win in the first game (27-25) to start the night. Sheboygan Falls quickly responded with a victory of their own in the next round (23-25).

“Sets two and three were back-and-forth battles the whole way with each team taking one a piece with Kewaskum being up 2-1 in sets going into set four. In set three, Kewaskum was down 1-9 at the beginning with many unforced errors but the girls battled back putting small runs together and showed a lot of heart,” added Burg.

With the title of regional champions on the line, the Indians’ were able to work together and dominate the final two rounds (25-22) and (25-13).

“In set four, Kewaskum got out to a big lead using their serving pressure and never looked back,” said Burg.

The coach stated that becoming Regional Champions was one of the big goals the team had set at the beginning of the season. This accomplishment was a big milestone for the Indians.

Due to winning both playo_ games, Kewaskum will host another game on Thursday, Oct. 31, for the sectional semifinals at 7 p.m. against Grafton.
