The Kewaskum Middle School cross country team attended the State Championship on October 11 at Weyauwega-Fremont High School. Fifty-three middle schools from around the state attended the event.
The Kewaskum Middle School boys placed fifth. The top performer from the boys’ team was Sullivan Marquardt with a time of 11:28. Other top performers for the boys were Tony Pasbrig in 62nd place with a time of 12:32:10, Lukas Schaefer in 66th place with a time of 12:35:10, Gavin Vanden Boom in 80th place with a time of 12:47:70, and Owen Kutschenreuter in 103rd place with a time of 13:04:60. Overall, 280 boys competed and finished the race.
The Kewaskum Middle School girls placed sixth overall in the event. The top performers from the team included Angelena Thull in 50th with a time of 13:14:00, Coralee Flood in 95th with a time of 13:59:70, Keatyn Koffke in 101st place with a time of 14:04, Nora Broughton in 103rd place with a time of 14:05:90, and Ellie Jung in 148th place with a time of 14:56:60. The girls’ race had 289 competitors.
Grace Beimborn made history as the first-ever Kewaskum Middle School runner to place first in the event. She had a time of 12:04:20, beating the second-place finisher by just 43 seconds.
Coaches Michael Mandujano and Anna Baltz said, “We are proud of the boys’ and girls’ team’s performance at the Middle School State Championship. Both boys and girls worked hard this season, and it was amazing to see their hard work throughout the season come to fruition.” They are excited to carry this momentum into next year, saying, “We are very happy with our success this year and are excited to see what we can accomplish next year.”
