Kewaskum Girls Soccer Gears Up for Regionals

Posted

The Kewaskum Indians’ girls varsity soccer team traveled to Hartford on Monday, May 19 for a back-and-forth game.
The Indians got an early lead thanks to a goal scored by senior forward Caitlin Finger off an assist from freshman Dana Jacobson.
A short time later, Hartford tied it up making the game 1-1.
Both teams continued to battle back and forth and find opportunities, but only Hartford was able to score again before halftime.
The second half brought out lots of energy from both teams, and Hartford was able to find the back of the net again making the score 3-1 in their favor.

The Indians were able to score their second goal in the 78th minute when senior Emily Melzer scored off an assist from Caitlin Finger.
Hartford put one more in before the final whistle, making the final score 4-2 for Hartford.
After the game, Coach Luke Piwani stated, “This was a very competitive and intense game for the entire 80 minutes. Caitlin Finger was all over the field and was a real playmaker today. She led our offensive attack and was doing a nice job setting up her teammates as well.”
The second game of the week took place at home for the Indians when they hosted Sheboygan Lutheran.
The Indians were the first to score when freshman Dana Jacobson scored off an assist from Caitlin Finger in the 17th minute.
Unfortunately, a penalty kick was given to Sheboygan Lutheran shortly before halftime, and they capitalized on the opportunity to tie the game up.
The Indians came out with speed and intensity in the second half and took the lead in the 50th minute when Caitlin Finger scored unassisted. Finger scored a second goal in the 67th minute assisted by Brooke Pritchard and the score would remain 3-1 until the final whistle.
Kewaskum put eight shots on goal, and their solid defense held Sheboygan Lutheran to just four.
Coach Piwani commented, “Our speed was the difference in this game. Dana asserted herself early and used her speed to get behind the defense often. It was great to see her constantly on the attack and that spread to the entire team.”
The Indians had a busy, three-game week before they began Regional play. The girls have a regional game on Thursday, June 5 at North Fond du Lac, starting at 5 p.m.
