Kewaskum Girls Soccer Beats Ripon in One-Game Week

Posted

The Kewaskum varsity girls’ soccer team was supposed to have three games last week, but due to the wonderful Wisconsin weather we’ve had, they were only able to play one game.
The Indians took on Ripon at home on Tuesday, May 13. This game was senior night for Kewaskum, and they honored their six seniors: Victoria Kenworthy, Caitlin Finger, Emily Melzer, Marisa Strankowski, Carissa Thierfelder, and Ayla Stuht.
The Indians came out hard right out of the gate, and Caitlin Finger found the back of the net just five minutes into the game. This set a solid tone for the game, and Finger scored again less than two minutes later off an assist from fellow senior Emily Melzer.
Coach Luke Piwani stated, “The ladies came out on the attack right from the opening whistle and did not let up until the game ended.”
Brooke Pritchard had an unassisted goal shortly before halftime to give the Indians a nice 3-0 lead going into the second half.

Caitlin Finger scored two more in the second half, both of which were assisted by Emily Melzer.
The seniors definitely put on a solid performance in honor of senior night. The Indians finished the game with 22 shots on goal and held Ripon to only one.
Coach Piwani commented, “The seniors really took control of this game. You could tell they really wanted this one and their intensity and urgency spread to the entire team.”
The girls play their final games of the regular season this week. Tuesday was against Winneconne. Wednesday they travel to Berlin for a 3:30 p.m. game, and they travel to West Bend on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
