The Kewaskum girls’ basketball team has had a successful start to their season and has been able to start a three-game win streak.
The girls played Plymouth at home on December 2 for a conference game. The Indians grabbed momentum early when Cami Boelte scored a two-point basket to bring the Indians to 14-15. Alexis Belyeu was able to score soon after at 6:27 to put the Indians ahead at 16-15.
The offense continued to build as Cami Boelte knocked down a three-pointer, bringing the lead to 19-15. She then scored again with another three-pointer to bring the score to 21-15.
The Panthers responded with a score from Ezra Streblow to bring them to 17 points, but Kaelyn Rettler immediately scored and brought the Indians to 23-17. Cami Boelte attempted a three-pointer at the end of the first half, but missed, ending the second half with the Indians leading 23-17.
Kewaskum opened the second half strong with Olivia Gerhartz scoring a quick basket to push the lead to 25-17. Plymouth’s Izzy Stielow drained a three-pointer to tighten the score to 25-20, but Rettler answered again with another basket.
Plymouth continued to press the Indians with Ashley Miller scoring a three-pointer to bring them up to 23, but Kewaskum continued to work to extend their lead.
After a timeout from Kewaskum, Cami Boelte scored a three-pointer to give Kewaskum a 32-24 lead. Plymouth responded with another three, but Olivia Gerhartz then countered with a three-pointer to ultimately bring it to 35-27. Later, Cami Boelte hit her fourth three-pointer of the night at 4:13 to give the Indians a 43-33 advantage.
Plymouth’s Izzy Stielow hit her second three-pointer of the night, and Ezra Streblow added another three to bring the Panthers to 39.
The Indians held firm at the free throw line with Rettler and Boelte both scoring two points each off of double bonuses. Plymouth scored on a late double bonus, but the Indians ultimately won with an overall score of 49-41.
The girls then went on to play Sheboygan South away on Friday, Dec. 5. They won 57-46. The high scorers of the game were Cami Boelte with 17 points, Kaelyn Rettler with 15 points, and Olivia Gerhartz with 11 points. This puts their overall record at 3-1 and conference record at 2-0. They played North Fond du Lac at home on Tuesday, Dec. 9, after print time.
