Kewaskum Boys Soccer Season Ends in Sectional Final

The Kewaskum Indians boys’ soccer team faced Fox Valley Lutheran on Thursday, Oct. 30, in the WIAA Division 3 Sectional Semifinal. Kewaskum entered the game with an overall record of 15-5-3 and a conference record of 9-2-1. Fox Valley Lutheran entered the game with an overall record of 15-4-4 and a conference record of 7-1. The two teams both took first place in their conferences.
The teams proved to be a close match. Neither team scored during the first half. Fox Valley Lutheran’s Austin Zanto scored at 48:05. Kewaskum scored their first goal of the game at 65:33 from senior Charlie Gambino, resulting in a 1-1 score. The game then went into a 10-minute overtime period where neither team scored, followed by a second 10-minute overtime period with the same result. To determine who would advance, the teams did a penalty kick shootout. Kewaskum came out on top with five penalty kicks compared to Fox Valley Lutheran’s four. Kewaskum won the game with an overall score of 1-1 (5-4), advancing on to play in the semifinals.
Kewaskum headed to the Stock Family Stadium in Green Bay to play Notre Dame Academy on Saturday, November 1. The Notre Dame Academy Tritons entered the game with a 14-4-3 overall record and a 6-1-2 conference record. They took fourth in their conference. The Kewaskum Indians entered the game with an overall record of 16-5-3. This game determined which team would head to the State Tournament played at Southeast Sales Powersports Stadium at Uihlein Soccer Park.
The Notre Dame Tritons had a strong first half, scoring their first point at 20:23. Neither team scored during the rest of the first half or the second half. Junior Matthew Betz had seven saves during the game. Senior Eli Steinbauer had one shot on goal, and senior Luciano Olla had one shot on goal. Kewaskum took five shots total during the game. The game ended in a loss for Kewaskum with a score of 0-1. This ended their season with a record of 16-6-3.
The team will lose seven seniors: Braydin Gell (D), Eli Steinbauer (MF, FORW), Mac Hasse (FORW, MF), Luciano Olla (MF), David Brown (D), Charlie Gambino (MF, FORW), and Will Haydin (D, MF, FORW).
