On Feb. 26-28, Campbellsport wrestling six wrestlers (Savannah Ksioszk, Emersen Wissink, Logan Knoeck, Jacob Alllickson, Trayton Renderman, and Gavin Pickering) to the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Ksioszk (48-9) made it to the consolation round on Saturday before falling one win short of the podium. She finished her first state tournament with two wins and set the record for most wins (48) in a season in program history.
“Savannah had a heck of a tournament, going 2-2 and has been the most complete six minutes of wrestling in her match against Richards that she has all done this year,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf. “She is going to be a name that people are going to know in the next three years.”
Wissink (40-10) set the record for most pins in a season with 30, and after her two state matches finished, her career record was 62-37.
“Emersen was right there with both girls she wrestled, and both ended placing in fifth and sixth place,” said Heisdorf. “She proved she could compete with the top girls in the state after only wrestling for two years.”
Wissink will be going to Grand Canyon University in Arizona for nursing, where she aslo is also going to continue to wrestle on their girls club team.
“I am so proud of both Emersen and Savannah,” said Heisdorf. They both really rose to the occasion and didn’t let the atmosphere and crowd get to them at all.”
Pickering (31-12) won his first consolation match by a fall, but lost his next match to finish his career with a record of 85-53.
Allickson (36-15) wrapped his high school wrestling career with a record of 123-61 after wrestling his two matches at state.
Renderman (30-16) and Knoeck (29-10) wrapped their seasons after wrestling two matches at the Kohl Center.
“Not the results that we were looking for, but it was fun to send four wrestlers down to the Kohl Center,” said Head Coach Alex Costello. “At one point, Campbellsport had three wrestlers at the same time, taking up three of four division two mats with something cool that really doesn’t happen very often.”
