The Lady Cougar Bowlers captured their fifth conference title in a row and their 13th conference title in the history of the program. The 2025-26 season marks the 27th year of the program. The Cougars also have nine second-place conference finishes in the program. First or second for 22 out of 27 years is a pretty remarkable run, but not quite as good as the wrestlers when they won 20-plus in a row. Kudos to the wrestling program, what a feat!
The Cougars traveled to Richfield to snag the fifth Conference title, but it was not easy. The lane conditions proved challenging for many teams this Monday.
The Cougars won the first three games of the match, but the Hartford Orioles exploded in games four and five with a commendable 167 and 181, respectively. The match was 3-2 going into game six. In game six, the Cougars squeaked one out when Abby Jarmuz picked up one pin of a split, capturing the game 129-128. In game seven, the Cougars made a major lane adjustment by moving their target inside. This move proved to work well for the Cougars as they cranked out 165, 157 and 165 the last three games to take the match 7-2.
Genna Grahl stepped into the lead-off position and had a good run for the team in games two and five. Abby Jarmuz had some thumb issues, but after lane adjustments, went back to her normal self. Ava Polzin had a tough start, but ended the night in the last four games, making a big improvement. Freshman Viola Schrauth led the team, filling 10 of 13 frames.
“We did not throw a lot of strikes tonight,” said Coach Serwe, so spare shooting was critical.
Stats for the match were as follows (strikes-spares-total frames): Lillee Kiehnau 2-6-16; Kendall Boegel 1-5-13; Ava Polzin 2-7-16; Viola Schrauth 3-7-13; Abby Jarmuz 5-6-16; Genna Grahl 4-5-16.
