Cougar Wrestlers Beat St. Lawrence Seminary

The Campbellsport Cougar wrestlers beat Saint Lawrence Seminary 62-28 on Thursday, December 12 to move to 2-0 in the Flyway Conference.

Conner Sitzberger, Porter Klotz, Brock Bentz, Logan Knoeck, Jacob Allickson, Jake Bowe, Gavin Pickering, Erich Cappozzo, and Aydryn Meilahn all won by pin. Garrett Pickering won by technical fall and Kyler Bowe won by a 5-1 decision.

In JV action, Elias Antonia, Kaleb Nennig, Aiden Ohms, Hudson McCarty, and Reed Scannell each won by pin.

Cougars Compete in Dells Duals

On Saturday, December 14, the Cougars traveled to Wisconsin Dells to participate in the 32dual tournament. The team battled injuries and fought to a third place finish in the consolation bracket going 3-2 on the day.

After losing their first dual to Melrose Mindoro/ Gale-Etterick Trempealeau 54-29, the Cougars got seeded fifth in the consolation bracket.

In the first round of bracket play, the Cougars faced twelve-seeded Northwestern and pulled out a 36-35 win. It was a back-and-forth dual where Jacob Allickson gave the Cougars a four-point lead with a pin going into the last match and Garrett Pickering battled back to only give up a decision and get the one-point, team win.

In the second round, they faced fourth-seeded Kimberly and squeaked out another close win by a 39-36 score.

In round three, they faced the one-seed, Cadott, and lost by a 52-23 margin putting them in the third-place match against Stevens Point.

The Cougars raced out to a 37-15 lead, then SPASH went on a run and won the last four matches but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars held on for a 37-36 win.

Conner Sitzberger went 5-0 with five pins and moved his overall record to 12-0 on the year. Brock Bentz (four pins) and Jacob Allickson (three pins) also went 5-0. Logan Knoeck and Erich Cappozzo each went 4-1. Zach Zimdahl went 3-2, Gavin Pickering went 3-2, and Hudson McCarty went 2-2.

Lady Cougar Wrestlers Compete in Brillion

The lady Cougar wrestlers competed in their second tournament of the year in Brillion on Friday, December 13. Mya Schraufnagel finished the day winning the consolation bracket going 5-1 with five pins at 132 pounds in a 27-girl bracket. Her only loss was to the eventual champion.

Irelyn Woolhether went 3-2 with three pins at 114 pounds. Her losses were to the eventual champion and third place finisher.

At 132 pounds, Emersen Wissink went 1-2 with one pin and Abigail Ksioszk (126 pounds) and Grace Walsh (152 pounds) each went 0-2.
