On July 19, Amadeo Rodriguez will conclude his Campbellsport Cougar football career by participating in the WFCA All-Star game at UW-Oshkosh, where he will play for the North-Small team.
“I started playing tackle football in the fifth grade,” said Amadeo Rodriguez. “There are a lot of moments in football that I will remember, but the main ones were my sophomore year when I was brought up to play varsity. Wednesday practices were always the best, with everyone working harder and making everyone better. It felt more competitive than an actual game because we knew each other and what our strategies were, which continued through my senior year.”
“My favorite memory would have to be my senior year when I had my best performance defensively and offensively against Omro when I had eight tackles in a game and just played very well all around,” said Rodriguez.
“Football is important to me because it has had a huge impact on my life, and I have met many friends and great people. It defines family, with football being one big family. When we all put those helmets on, we are family,” said Rodriguez.
“My biggest influences to start it all out would be my Mom and Dad, as they have supported me since fifth grade to continue a sport I cared so much about,” said Rodriguez. “Right up there with them are my coaches from JV to Varsity, and I will never forget those talks when I was JV suiting up for Varsity, as you guys would assure me my time was coming soon.”
“My biggest influence of all would be Coach Schrauth and Coach Parker, as they were the ones who spent the majority of the time with me because they were the lineman coaches. Evan would always be on the sidelines with something for us to improve on,” said Rodriguez. “Then my friends, as I grew up with them, they were always there to motivate me and each other since we have played together since fifth grade. Getting out on that field with them will always play a huge part in why I enjoyed football and kept on going.”
“Amadeo started for three years on varsity-only offense as a sophomore, then both on the offense and defense lines during the past two seasons,” said Campbellsport Head Football Coach Todd Wondra. “He is a great kid with an amazing personality and continued to work hard on the field to get better every year.”
“We are going to miss his presence at practice because he was almost always upbeat and vibrant, and I’m super proud he was chosen for this game, as I think he really deserved the chance,” said Wondra. “From where he started as a freshman to this season, it was a huge improvement all over the field. Amadeo was a big part of our program the past few seasons, and it’s going to be hard to replace him.”
