On April 4, Campbellsport softball beat West Bend West 5-4 in their home opener of the 2025 season.
West Bend West (0-2) held a 3-0 lead after scoring three runs in the top of the first inning over Campbellsport (1-0).
The Cougars got a positive jolt from their leadoff hitter Emma Muraski with a blast over the left field fence to put Campbellsport on the scoreboard at 3-1 after the first inning.
“It was nice to get on the board in the bottom half of the first with Emma’s first career home run,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf. “Emma was so excited...because one of her season goals was hitting a home run.”
Campbellsport was trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the second inning when Peyton Hall raked a single with two outs for the Cougars, which resulted in two runs coming across the plate to put the score at 4-3.
The Cougars were able to tie the game at four in the fourth inning after a strong ball hit by Olivia McCarty at the West Bend East shortstop which bounced off her glove to allow Megan McCarty to score from third base.
Campbellsport’s offense was able to get three consecutive singles to load the bases for the Cougars in the fifth inning.
Pinch runner Josie Twohig scored on an error by the Spartans to put the Cougars ahead 5-4 before the inning ended with Campbellsport having a runner tagged out at home plate to end the fifth inning.
Peyton Hall finished off the final two innings, assisted by her team’s defense, to secure the complete game win on the day.
“Peyton settled into the game on the mound by allowing only two hits in the last five innings of the game, and she got us a big two-out RBI single for two runs to get back within one run,” said Heisdorf.
Campbellsport’s offense was led by Emma Muraski’s solo home run, and Emma Batzler had two hits in the non-conference win.
At Waterloo
On April 1, Campbellsport softball’s first game of the season against Waterloo was canceled after the team traveled to Waterloo to find out one of the umpires wasn’t available due to thinking the game was canceled because of weather.
Campbellsport traveled to Mavyille on April 8 and hosts Springs on April 10 with game time at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars travel to Mauston for games on April 11 and April 12.
