On May 22, Campbellsport softball beat Random Lake 5-4 for their tenth win in their last 15 games, after starting the season with a record of 2-6, to finish the regular season with a winning record of 12-11.
Campbellsport (12-11) got on the scoreboard first in the non-conference matchup on the road at Random Lake (13-5) in the top of the fourth inning when Mackenzie Helsell drove in the first run with a single.
The Cougars were facing two outs in the fourth inning when Kaylie Jandre hit a double into right field to drive in two runs for Campbellsport to cap off the inning with a 3-0 lead over the Rams.
Random Lake tied up the game in the fifth inning with three runs of their own before the Cougars responded in the sixth inning with two runs scored by Shea Willacker and Emma Batzler to retake the lead at 5-3.
The Rams were able to hit a solo home run with two outs in the seventh inning to tighten the game at 5-4 before pitcher Peyton Hall got the final out with a strikeout to end Random Lake’s hopes and give the Cougars a 5-4 win.
The Cougars were paced by Kaylie Jandre’s two runs batted in, with Olivia McCarty and Peyton Hall combining in the pitching circle to get the win for Campbellsport.
“It’s always nice to end the regular season with a win and it gives us a little momentum going into the playoffs winning five of last seven games,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf. “Mackenzie had a nice game offensively and Emma threw out a runner at the plate, which ended up being huge with a one run game.”
Campbellsport softball, the number six seed, traveled to play at the three-seed KML on May 27 in the second round of the WIAA Division 3 Softball Tournament. The Regional final will be on May 29 if the Cougars advance with a win on May 27.
