On January 22, Campbellsport boys’ basketball lost 59-40 to Springs on the road in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Campbellsport (5-10, 2-5) held an 8-7 lead over Springs (4-9, 3-4), highlighted by three-pointers from Trent Schladweiler and Trevin Shea.
Quinten Cappozzo knocked a three to give the Cougars the lead back at 11-9 before the Ledgers scored 17 straight points to take a 26-11 lead.
Campbellsport fought back with four points from Noah Bobb and three points apiece from Schladweiler and Shea to make the score 28-21 in favor of Springs.
The halftime score was 31-21, with the Ledgers ahead of the visiting Cougars.
Carter Gellings drilled back-to-back three-point shots to put the score at 38-27, with the Ledgers leading in the game.
The Ledgers kept Campbellsport at bay in the game, but the Cougars continued to show good effort with Cullen Reis scoring six consecutive points, which cut the Ledgers’ lead to 45-34.
Campbellsport wouldn’t get any closer in the game, with the Ledgers winning the conference matchup 59-40.
Vs West Bend East
On January 20, Campbellsport boys’ basketball lost 49-47 to West Bend East, ending their four-game winning streak.
Campbellsport (5-10) jumped out to an 8-2 lead over West Bend East (1-12), thanks to eight points from Trent Schladweiler.
The Cougars continued their strong start with three-pointers from Deacon Cousert and Trevin Shea to take a 16-5 lead over the Suns with less than nine minutes left in the first half.
West Bend East closed the gap to 16-12 before Shea converted an old-fashioned three play with a layup and free throw, then Pierce Kaehne knocked down a three to push the Cougars to 22-14.
The Suns finished the half on a 9-0 run to get a 23-22 halftime lead over the Cougars.
Noah Bobb got a steal, which he converted into a coast-to-coast basket, and Shea scored on a layup to give Campbellsport a 31-27 lead, but West Bend East responded to take a 39-38 lead.
The Cougars received back-to-back baskets from Bobb to retake the lead at 42-39, but the Suns would go in the game to fight back to take a 44-43 lead on the road.
Kaehne and Shea converted two free throws apiece to give Campbellsport a 47-44 lead with 2:41 left in the game.
West Bend East ended up scoring five straight points, including a three-pointer with 32 seconds left in the game, to take a 49-47 lead over Campbellsport.
Campbellsport would have the final possession with an opportunity to win or tie the game at the end of regulation.
The Cougars’ opportunity was a three-pointer from Carter Gellings with three seconds left in the game, but it bounced off the rim with the ball ending up in Kaehne’s hands for an offensive rebound, and he was fouled going up for the shot before the buzzer sounded at the game.
Kaehne went to the free throw line with the opportunity to force overtime if he made both free throw but he missed the first free throw resulting in a heartbreaking 49-47 home loss to West Bend East.
Trevin Shea’s 13 points led the Cougars in the non-conference matchup.
Campbellsport boys’ basketball traveled to Cedar Grove-Belgium after print time on January 27, and then the Cougars will host WLA on January 30 at 7 p.m.
