Posted

The Kewaskum Village Board held their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Kewaskum Village Hall.

The Board filled James Hobland’s open Village Trustee Position through an election by holding trustee candidate interviews. Those who were interested had to notify the village by noon on Sept. 21. During the interview each candidate was allotted three minutes and was invited to speak in alphabetical order by last name in front of the board about their background and why they felt they would be a good fit for the position. The board then voted on a written ballot that included their name.

The five residents that chose to run were Keith Backhaus, Jack Felten, Gina Raether, Vicki Towell and Harry Roecker.

After hearing each candidate the village board cast their votes and follows; President Mary Schlitt voted for Vicki Towell, Trustee Richard Knoebel voted for Keith Backhaus, Trustee James Wright voted for Keith Backhaus, Trustee Justin Weninger voted for Jack Felten and Trustee Wendi Muckerheide voted for Jack Felten. They then went into a second round of voting for candidates Keith Backhaus or Jack Felten. The voting was as follows; President Mary Schlitt voted for Keith Backhaus, Trustee Richard Knoebel voted for Keith Backhaus, Trustee James Wright voted for Keith Backhaus, Trustee Justin Weninger voted for Jack Felten and Trustee Wendi Muckerheide voted for Jack Felten.

Keith Backhaus won the majority vote 3-2 in the second round of voting and will serve the rest of James Hovland’s Trustee term ending in April 2026. The next village board meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Kewaskum Village Hall.
