Cougars Winning Streak Comes to an End

On October 2, Campbellsport football lost 21-6 to Springs on the road in their Flyway Conference matchup.

Campbellsport’s (3-4, 3-2) senior running back Carter Gellings (183 rushing yards) rushed for 19 yards on the first play of the game, but Springs (3-4, 2-3) recovered a Cougars fumble at their own 46-yard line to end a promising drive for Campbellsport.

Sophomore defensive back Trayton Renderman recovered a fumble for Campbellsport at the Ledgers’ 45-yard line.

The Cougars capped off their drive with a one-yard rushing touchdown from freshman running back Damien Braund to get a 6-0 lead over the Ledgers at 9:14 in the second quarter.

Springs got a 52-yard passing play from Zander Lenz to Jaxon Sabel to get to the Cougars' 15-yard line.

Lenz finished off the drive with an 11-yard rushing touchdown to take a 7-6 lead over the Cougars at the 7:24 mark in the second quarter.

The Ledgers added a Jack McGuire five-yard rushing touchdown with 45 seconds before halftime, increasing their lead to 14-6.

Campbellsport drove to the Springs 35-yard line before being stopped on fourth down with five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Cougars had another good drive, getting to the Ledgers' 21-yard line before a holding call erased a first down conversion on fourth down.

Campbellsport’s fourth-down pass on the next play was knocked in the end zone by the Ledgers defense with 7:29 left in the game.

McGuire scored his second touchdown with a 2-yard plunge in the end zone, pushing the Springs lead to 21-6 at the 3:46 mark in the fourth.

The Cougars got down to the Springs 35-yard line with 2:13 left in the game before they were stopped on a fourth-down rushing play, which meant their three-game winning streak came to an end with the Springs' 21-6 conference win.
