Donald Alvin Zastrow, 83, was called to his eternal home in heaven on February 3, 2024.
The Lord gave Don life in this world on November 4,1940, in Hartford. He was the son of the late Alvin and Hilda (Yoeckel) Zastrow. He graduated from Mayville High School in 1958.
He was joined in marriage to Diana Schouten at Zum Kripplein Christi Lutheran Church, rural Iron Ridge, on June 27, 1964. Their marriage was blessed with three children. They lived in the Mayville area until their retirement in 2006.
Don worked for many years at Mayville Metal Products.
Don was blessed to serve his church, Zum Kripplein Christi rural Iron Ridge, St. Paul’s Brownsville, and Peace Hartford in various capacities of volunteering and leadership. Throughout their marriage, Don and Diana served the church at large, working on projects with “Builders for Christ”, volunteering at Northside Lutheran Ministries, Grace Oasis, and Institutional Ministries. Don also enjoyed volunteering over 25 years at the Experimental Aircraft Association Annual Fly In. Besides his church, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and godchildren were very important. He and Diana followed many of their children and grandchildren’s school activities. Don and Diana were blessed to see God’s creation during their many travels throughout the United States and several European countries.
Don is survived by his wife, Diana; children, Darren (Carol), Darla (Charles) Garbedian, and David (Rebecca); six grandchildren, Joan (Dan) Zimmer, Jessica, Jennifer, Benjamin, Allison, Evan; two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Joseph; and sister-in-law, Deloris Zastrow; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by parents, Alvin and Hilda Zastrow; parents-in-law, John and Norma Schouten; brother, Merlin Zastrow; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Metz and Joan Schouten.
A funeral service for Don will take place on Friday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church (1025 Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford, WI 53027) in Hartford with the Rev. Aaron Steinbrenner officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, Feb. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church. A private family burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
